The Artist

From Ravensbourne College of Art (B.A.Fine Art Painting ) he was accepted at The Slade School for painting, but chose The Royal College of Art (M.A. for Film Making)  with dreams of a future in Hollywood, but he didn’t really fit with the film school whizz kids there ,and also proved somewhat technically inept.

So, he swiftly resumed painting shortly after leaving. Always a bit restless as an artist and person, then followed various painting exhibition opportunities e.g Arnolfini Bristol, I.C.A London, an art lectureship in Maidstone Kent followed and then an invitation to teach at San Diego State University California. He stayed in U.S.A for five years before being accidentally exported back home to the U.K.

Always wanting to experiment (usually in series’ ) his oeuvre has included many pyrotechnical public fire sculptures and then found object ( often plastic and soft toys ) and recycled/upcycled material  3D works, the latter of which were picked up by galleries to exhibit and take to art fairs nationally and internationally (Now shown and collected in 25+ countries including several installations in Hong Kong and China).

The recycled 3D works proved the be the most enduring. During this period he was represented by Envie D’Art Gallery Paris (also having lived and worked in France for 18 months) and London and Rebecca Hossack Gallery London and New York.

In 2019 Robert for several reasons, (including wanting to avoid the inevitable branding ) decided to become independent of commercial galleries and to ( mostly ) drop 3D in order to re – explore painting on canvas, the Trash Art and Nebulous Series.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Robert. He is an exceptionally talented artist and I look forward to working on more projects together in the near future".
